A resolution on Srebrenica, where the genocide was committed in 1995, could soon be found in the United Nations. This, among other things, foresees that July 11 will become the International Day of Remembrance and Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica and condemns denial of the genocide. That there is no agreement on this in BiH is clearly seen from the statements coming from Republika Srpska. What will the resolution ultimately represent and why is it causing panic in one part of Bosnia and Herzegovina?

The resolution on Srebrenica should be presented at the General Assembly of the United Nations at the end of April, at the beginning of May, this is the information we obtained during the preparation of this report. The resolution refers to the verdicts for the genocide in Srebrenica and comes in the function of strengthening and respecting international law. If it becomes an International Day, July 11 would be marked in all countries every year. Republika Srpska entity disputes and rejects this document.

MILORAD DODIK, President of the Republika Srpska

“That is why the Republika Srpska will, at its first next session, adopt the report made by the International Commission formed by the Government, in which there is a clear claim that there was no genocide in Srebrenica, that it was established that it was there from the point of view of the Bosniaks throughout the entire period of the war in that area 3,741 people died, while over two and a half thousand Serbs died in the same period, in the same area. Genocide did not happen in Srebrenica, as the International Commission wrote, very clearly and precisely.”

About the committed genocide against Bosniaks, the facts must be explained and the truth must be told, because these are the verdicts of the highest courts in the world, said the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović.

DENIS BEĆIROVIĆ, Chairman of the BiH Presidency

“The courts have made decisions, that is the key thing, and of course there are a large number of friends who are working to additionally point out the importance of genocide prevention, the importance of reconciliation in the entire region, the importance of building a future based on peace and justice, we are dedicated to that and I want others to understand it in such a way and not to make some campaign that is below civilizational values.”

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, recently commented on the resolution, fearing that, as he says, there will be a request for the abolition of the RS as well, as well as for Belgrade to pay war reparations. The Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide gave their comment.

MURAT TAHIROVIĆ, Association of Genocide Victims and Witnesses

“What to expect from a man who is a sponsor of perpetrators of war crimes on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

The resolution on Srebrenica is a document that should have happened earlier, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

ELMEDIN KONAKOVIĆ, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina

“The story about the resolution that will eventually be confirmed in the UN General Assembly has been a goal for many years and these activities are happening. I talked to people, there is nothing in that resolution that should provoke anyone, it puts the point of civilization on the heavy the pain and suffering that our people in Bosnia and Herzegovina experienced. I see no reason for anyone to be upset.”

According to all predictions, there is a sufficient two-thirds majority of states that are ready to adopt such a resolution, according to legal expert Kasim Trnka.

KASIM TRNKA, legal expert

“That would be another civilizational global confirmation of what terrible crimes happened in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Formally speaking, the resolutions of the General Assembly are not a binding act, but they have such a great political and moral weight that anyone who resists this one notorious world fact risks being be excluded from that community.”

The resolution comes at a time after the judgments became final three years ago, and if the text that has been worked on for several months is still being refined, it will, among other things, act preventively by preserving genocide through the education system and by strengthening awareness of what happened, BHRT reports.
