On Friday, Velika Kladuša declared a state of natural disaster due to being affected by heavy rainfall that caused flooding. Throughout the day, the teams of JKUP Komunalija Velika Kladuša and Civil Protection were on the ground to repair the consequences of the storm and protect citizens and their property. The situation is a bit better this morning, but according to Sinan Huskić, director of JKUP Komunalija, the teams are still on standby, monitoring the situation even today.

The water level of the Kladušnica River, measured this morning at 9 o’clock, was 214 cm, while at 10 o’clock the water level was measured at 209 cm.

“Workers of JKUP ‘Komunalije’ – Velika Kladuša yesterday provided 2,200 sandbags that were available to citizens who invited us to go out on the field. Other teams visited the most critical areas, including Lake Retencija, the Fišića bridge, the lower part of Alatuša and the dog shelter, where we prevented water from entering the shelter. At Alatuša, the bridge crossing was impossible, so for safety reasons that part was closed to traffic,” said Huskić.

Rainfall has been announced today, and JKUP Komunalija says that they are ready to react and help citizens at any time.

”The situation has improved, the water level has dropped, but we still have to be vigilant. Our teams remain on the ground and are ready to help citizens at any time. As for the passability of roads in the Velika Kladuša area, we currently have no information about significant traffic disruptions. According to data from the Civil Protection, the floods did not endanger household,” added Huskić.

Local authorities are appealing to citizens to be careful, especially near rivers and risk areas, and to follow the instructions of the competent services that are continuously monitoring the development of the situation.
