The Son of a Norwegian Princess under Serious Charges

The police in Oslo have announced an indictment against Marius Borg Hoiby, the eldest son of the Norwegian princess, which includes rape, sexual assault, and causing bodily harm, following a months-long investigation into a case involving, as they state, a “double-digit” number of victims.

Hoiby, the son of Princess Mette-Marit and stepson of Crown Prince Haakon, had been under investigation since repeated arrests during 2024, on charges of rape, as well as preliminary charges of bodily harm and property damage.

Oslo prosecutor’s lawyer Andreas Kruszewski said that Hoiby cooperated during police questioning, which has now been completed. Evidence in the case was collected from multiple sources, including text messages, eyewitness testimonies, and searches carried out by the police.

The indictment includes one case of rape with penetration and two cases of rape without penetration, four cases of sexual assault, and two cases of bodily harm, Kruszewski said at a press conference.

“I cannot provide more details on the number of victims other than to confirm that it is a double-digit number,” he said.

Defense attorney Petar Sekulic stated that Hoiby “takes the charges absolutely seriously, but does not admit any guilt in most of the cases – especially when it comes to sexual abuse and violence.”

The Royal Palace did not respond to requests for comment.

Hoiby (28) previously lived with the royal couple and their two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra and Prince Sverre Magnus, but now lives in a separate house nearby, according to Sekulic.

He remains free pending a possible trial and, under the law, has the right to the presumption of innocence until the court decides otherwise.
