The event “Grebak – the path of life” continued today with a series of events in the Bosnia Podrinje Canton (BPK) of Goražde. Flowers were laid at the martyrs’ cemetery and memorial in the Grepka locality and at the martyrs’ graves in the settlement of Orahovice.

As part of the appropriate program, memories of Grebak and all that it meant in the most difficult days of the war were evoked.

“We know how much Grebak meant in the besieged Goražde and that on that journey of life many found salvation by bringing food to their families or moving on. Unfortunately, there are many who lost their lives in ambushes and minefields along the way. With the event “Grebak – the way of life” we try to save that time and the memory of people who are no longer with us from being forgotten. In addition to other things, the delegation of the BPK Government also laid candles for the first time at the Martyr’s Cemetery in the Faocići settlement, where four “Golden Lilies” were also buried,” said BPK Veteran Affairs Minister Avdo Mirvić.

Grebak has been preserved from oblivion for 27 years by the Mountaineering Club “Goražde – Maglić”, whose organization started the traditional summer hike of the same name today.

“This morning, around 50 participants gathered at the memorial “Goražde, a hero to its defenders” where the fallen defenders were honored and headed towards Grepko. We are glad that this year, in addition to Goraždan, we have participants from Sarajevo, Gradačac and other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that we will all together cross the section through which thousands of people passed during the war, stopping along the way at the places of suffering in order to pay tribute to those who were there locality lost their lives. The final destination is Ruda Glava, where a history lesson and an appropriate gathering will be held for all participants,” said the president of PK “Goražde – Maglić” Zajko Šovšić.
