The UK will ban Pupils from using Mobile Phones in Schools

The UK government will ban the use of mobile phones in schools, including during recess, because they disrupt lessons, Anadolia reports.

The Ministry of Education stated that 97 percent of children aged 12 and over have personal mobile phones.

They said that they noticed that the quality of education is better in schools that have banned the use of mobile phones.

They recalled that the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has also called for a ban on mobile phones in schools, which cause cyberbullying and disruption of classes.

They stated that school principals will receive support in banning the use of cell phones throughout the school day, including breaks.

It was announced that phones will not be brought to school at all or will be left in locked boxes, cupboards or safes at school entrances.

They pointed out that 44 percent of parents are concerned about the time their children spend on mobile phones.

They stated that £10 million would be invested in around 700 schools over the next three years to implement this ban.

Education Minister Gillian Keegan has said that school staff will be given the power to prevent phone use.

“Schools are places of education, and phones in the worst case cause unwanted distractions in classes,”  said Keegan.

Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation Michelle Donelan believes that although technology offers significant advantages, they should not be at the expense of children’s education.

More than 75 percent of families support banning the use of phones in schools.
