The United Arab Emirates canceled visas for citizens of Kosovo, so Kosovars will be able to enter the country freely, Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani announced on Thursday.
The visa waiver agreement between Kosovo and the United Emirates was reached during last month’s meeting between Kosovo President Osmani and President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and has already been signed.
“I thank the President of the United Arab Emirates for accepting my proposal to abolish visas for citizens of Kosovo. The agreement was reached during our meeting last month and has already been signed, opening the way for more opportunities for cooperation between our countries and citizens,” Osmani wrote on the platform X.
A week ago, the countries of the Schengen European area, within which documents are not checked at the borders of travelers, abolished the visa regime for 1.8 million inhabitants of Kosovo. This was also done by Spain on Monday, the only country in the Schengen area that retained visas for citizens of Kosovo after January 1.
Kosovars are allowed to stay in these countries for 90 days without a visa, within a period of 180 days.
Kosovo was the last country in the Western Balkans whose residents needed visas to enter “Schengen”, an area named after the place in Luxembourg where an agreement on cross-border free movement was signed in 1985.
