The US Treasury announced that it has decided to impose sanctions on two Iranian companies and four Iranians for cyber attacks on companies and government institutions in the country.

The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Department of the Treasury stated that the targets of the cyber attacks were numerous companies and government institutions in the US.

It stated that the sanctions were taken against two Iranian companies and four Iranians on the basis that they carried out these cyber attacks on behalf of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards – Cyber Electronics Command (IRGC-CEC).

US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller stated that the Department made a decision on sanctions along with an indictment prepared for four people.

“The IRGC-CEC is an Iranian state organization responsible for cyber attacks against institutions in the US and other countries,” Miller said.

Stressing that the US will continue to work to detect malicious cyber actions and punish those responsible, Miller said: “The US will not tolerate cyber attacks targeting domestic companies.”, AA writes.
