The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Tuesday that an average of 160 children are killed every day in Gaza, where Israel’s attacks have been going on for a month.
“On average, around 160 children are killed every day based on data from the (Palestinian) Ministry of Health,” WHO official Christian Lindmeier told a United Nations (UN) briefing in Geneva.
He reiterated that a humanitarian pause is urgently needed to alleviate suffering.
The Gaza Strip has been under bombardment since the Palestinian group Hamas launched a surprise offensive against Israel on October 7.
Since then, at least 10,022 Palestinians have been killed, including 4,104 children and 2,641 women. According to official data, the death toll in Israel is around 1,600.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that “Gaza is becoming a graveyard for children”, as hundreds of girls and boys are killed or wounded every day.
