Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Ambassador to Germany Damir Arnaut said there are no indications that citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are among the victims of the Magdeburg attack.
“At this moment, the embassy is in constant contact with the authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany and there are no indications that citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina are among the dead or injured. However, given the large number of injured, we continue to contact the German authorities,” Arnaut said in a statement to Anadolu Agency on Saturday.
At least five people were killed in a vehicle attack at a Christmas market in Magdeburg, eastern Germany, while more than 200 were injured.
According to information reported by German media about the attacker, the 50-year-old perpetrator, Talib A, has lived in Germany since 2006 and has an indefinite residence permit in the country. He works as a doctor in the city of Bernburg, and shared posts on social media in which he said he was “concerned about the rise of Islam in Germany.”
News reports stated that the attacker drove a BMW into the crowd at the Christmas market and drove at least 400 meters.
The perpetrator was detained after the attack. After the incident, the Christmas market was closed and people were asked to leave the city centre, N1 writes.
