Yesterday in Omarska near Prijedor was marked the 25th anniversary of the formation of the concentration camp through which passed 8,000 men, women, and children, mostly Bosniaks.

Several thousand people, survivors, citizens, and guests gathered at the locality of the former concentration camp, which was formed by the Serbs.

After the tour of the camp, all attendees were addressed by Mirsad Duratovic, on behalf of the associate of camp detainees, Jasmin Meskovic, chairman of the Union of Camp Detainees in BiH, Satko Mujagic, founder of the “Guardians of Omarska”, the Vice-President of the RS, Ramiz Salkic and the Head of the OSCE Mission to BiH, Ambassador Jonathan Moore.

The official part of the ceremony was completed by laying flowers in front of the so-called White House, and they released thousands of white balloons with names printed on paper notes.

The concentration camp Omarska was opened on May 26, and it was closed in August 1992.

About 8, 000 detainees went through the camp, and 700 of them were killed or are still considered missing.

The Hague tribunal has convicted seven Serb people for crimes committed in the concentration camp Omarska, while proceedings against 27 others for the crimes committed in Prijedor are still ongoing.
