12421719_1139837886067166_2032547000_nWorks on the construction of the Catholic Cultural Centre “Saint Francis” in Tuzla should be continued soon, it was confirmed by the guardian of the Franciscan Monastery of the St. Apostles Peter and Paul in Tuzla, Mario Divković.

The idea for this project started in 2006 with the guardian of the Franciscan Monastery in Tuzla at the time, the friar Zdravko Anđić.

The idea foresaw the construction of a center that is to symbolize the Catholic Church that has been standing on that place for decades and which had to be demolished in 1987 due to the sinking of the terrain. Furthermore, the center was to be a place intended for cultural events organized by the Franciscan Monastery in Tuzla together with other institutions.

The cornerstone was laid on June 29, 2011 by the Consul of the Republic of Croatia in Tuzla, Josip Juras, after which the construction works officially started.

“A certain amount of financial means is invested in the construction each year. So far, we have built the ancillary facility and the exterior works on it have been completed, while the reinforced concrete works have been completed in the universal hall which bears the silhouette of the old Catholic Church. Government of the Republic of Croatia ensured a certain amount of funds which have already been paid to the account of our monastery,” Divković said.

Regarding the completion of works, Divković said that they are conditioned with financial means.

The entire project emerged within the revitalization of the historical core of Tuzla and its conceptual solution is signed by the architect Juro Pranjić of Tuzla.

The center consists of two facilities. One will accommodate the universal hall, while the other will be intended for amenities such as rehearsal rooms, café, library, and offices.

These two facilities will be connected with the alley of Franciscans who contributed to the cultural identity of BiH.

The entire project amounts to around three million BAM.

More than a million and a half BAM have been invested so far, and Divković hopes that the works will be completed in the following two years.
