The Association of the Movement of the Mothers of the enclaves of Srebrenica and Žepa wrote to the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Courts after information appeared that the war criminal Ratko Mladić would be released due to an allegedly deteriorating health condition.
“The whole process against the criminal Mladić before the ICTY and the IRMCT was full of information about his deteriorating health and the demands of the Russian Federation and Serbia for Mladić’s temporary release for the purpose of treatment. The whole world is aware and knows that the criminal Ratko Mladić would never return to the face of international justice from Russia or Serbia if he were to be released,” the letter states.
It is also recalled that Mladić was brought to the detention unit of the ICTY from Serbia in a catastrophic state of health and that international medical teams practically brought him back to life.
“We are confident that the international medical teams of IRMCT are now capable of facing any health challenge. We believe that the criminal Ratko Mladić should be immediately sentenced to life imprisonment and any attempt to release him should be thwarted. It should be borne in mind that the criminal Mladic has the world’s highest level of health care, better and more efficient than any of his victims who are now begging you not to make a mistake and allow the criminal to try again to manipulate in order to avoid punishment and escape to the Russian Federation and Serbia, which are countries sanctuaries of war criminals. We ask you and urge you to thwart any attempt to manipulate the war criminal because it is his right, as well as ours, that he immediately start serving his sentence of life imprisonment. We send you support and expressions of respect and we are convinced that you will do everything to implement law and justice and to prevent any attempt at manipulation that is against the interests of the truth and the victims,” the letter concludes.
