In the first six months of 2021, employees of the Indirect Taxation Authority (ITA) of BiH temporarily confiscated tobacco and cigarettes that were not marked with excise stamps in the value of 2.9 million BAM. Such tobacco and cigarettes are most often destroyed.
For the sake of comparison, in the entire 2020, a total of tobacco and cigarettes worth 2.4 million BAM were confiscated.

Asked what is happening with these products, the ITA says that in each individual case in which the goods are confiscated due to a customs violation, the competent courts make decisions that tell what to do.

Goods harmful to health

"Tobacco and cigarettes are most often destroyed, because these are goods for which there is no documentation of origin, it is not known what is an integral part of these goods and they could be further harmful to human health if consumed," explains Head of the Department for Communications and International Cooperation of the ITA BiH Ratko Kovacevic.

In the six months of 2021, the ITA issued 91,911,782 pieces of excise stamps, which must be marked on each pack of cigarettes and tobacco packaging. In the first six or six months last year, 96,491,968 were issued. How much does the state get from excise taxes "In order for tobacco and cigarettes to be legally sold in BiH, they must be marked with excise stamps issued by the ITA.

Every box of cigarettes or tobacco packaging that is not marked with excise stamps or marked with excise stamps of other countries is sold illegally in BiH," Kovacevic explains.

Regarding the revenues from excises on tobacco and tobacco products, the ITA collected 374.1 million BAM in six months, while in the same period in 2020, 375.9 million marks were collected, Klix.ba writes.
