Director of the Republic Center for Research on War, War Crimes and Search for Missing Persons, Viktor Nuždić, told Srna that today marks the 28th anniversary of the closure of the “Silos” camp, the fact that it was closed only after the end of the war speaks volumes for its cruelty.

Nuždić stated that about 600 inmates passed through this camp in the town of Tarčin, in the municipality of Hadžići in Sarajevo, many of whom also stayed in other camps, such as the “Krupa” ammunition warehouse and the “Deveti Maj” Elementary School in Pazarić.

“According to our data, at least 22 persons of Serbian nationality were killed in ‘Silos’, and the attitude of the judicial institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina towards the torture in the camp is shown by the fact that only eight persons were sentenced to a shameful 48 years in prison, and some of them were direct participants crimes or participated in the formation and functioning of the camp,” said Nuždić.

He emphasized that this was not the only camp for Serbs in the past war and that the Center has so far established the existence of hundreds of camps and places of detention for Serbs, where they were killed, physically abused, and sexually abused.

“All this will be the focus of our research in the future in order to leave a lasting memory of these sufferings so that they are not forgotten and not repeated. The goal is to record, describe and list the number of prisoners and the types of suffering they experienced in each camp and place of detention for Serbian victims.” , concluded Nuždić.
