A horrific accident involving an American Airlines passenger plane and a military helicopter occurred in the Washington area.

According to initial official information, the accident occurred as the plane was approaching Reagan Washington National Airport, when it collided with a Sikorsky H-60 helicopter, better known as a Black Hawk.

Details of how the accident occurred are not yet known, but what is known is that there were 64 people on board.

“The plane was flying from Kansas to Washington. There were four crew members and 60 passengers on board. The search is currently underway. We are in contact with authorities and are assisting emergency response units,” American Airlines said.

On the other hand, there were four soldiers in the military helicopter.

Numerous rescuers and other services are on the ground searching for the people who were on the plane and the helicopter. Parts of the plane, as well as the helicopter, fell into the Potomac River.

Although the number of casualties has not yet been confirmed, US media reports that 18 bodies have been pulled from the river so far.

“So far, no survivors have been found. Dozens of rescuers are involved in the diving mission. There are firefighters, ambulances, the military, police and city services,” said representatives of the rescue team.
