Transavia France, the low-cost airline of the Air France-KLM group, celebrated the launch of its new route between Paris Orly and Sarajevo on April 17. This new route marks the airline’s arrival in Bosnia and Herzegovina and makes Sarajevo a new destination now accessible via direct flights from Paris. The twice-weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays allow passengers to reach the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina for €64 one-way.
This new route maintains Transavia France’s commitment to further expanding its network while supporting mobility needs between France and the Balkans. This route responds to both diaspora demands and the growing interest of tourists in a destination rich in cultural and natural heritage.
The official opening ceremony was held in Paris at Orly Airport in the presence of Mr. François Delmas, French Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Manuela Goyat, Secretary General of Transavia France. They performed the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony with the aircraft crew, officially opening the route.
Mr. François Delmas then boarded the inaugural flight to Sarajevo, emphasizing the importance of this connection in strengthening ties between the two countries.
“The opening of this destination to Sarajevo marks an important milestone in the development of our network. It helps us strengthen the ties between France and Bosnia and Herzegovina by facilitating economic, cultural and tourist exchanges between our two countries. At Transavia France, we are proud to offer, for the first time, a direct route between Paris and Sarajevo, thus contributing to further bringing our two countries closer together.” Manuela Gojat, Secretary General of Transavia France.
“Transavia is making history today by opening a direct route between a single Paris airport (Orly) and Sarajevo. Never before have these two European capitals, these two Olympic cities, these two exceptional cities of our continent, been closer to each other. By participating in this inaugural flight, I would like to highlight the opportunities that this new development offers our fellow citizens: in addition to establishing closer ties between two popular tourist destinations, the entire partnership between France and Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in the economic field, will be able to experience a new flourishing.” François Delmas, Ambassador of France to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“We are proud that today, together with our partners and We are witnessing the opening of a new airline for passengers. Establishing a connection between the two Olympic cities, Paris and Sarajevo, represents a powerful symbol of connectivity as well as a multidimensional strategic step forward for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In addition to significantly improving the tourist accessibility of our country, this airline also has great economic significance, as it opens up new opportunities for strengthening trade ties, attracting investments, and developing business and institutional cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and France. We believe that this line will show strong and long-term potential with the support of constant interest from passengers, the tourism sector, and a partnership approach from all stakeholders,” said Mr. Dino Selimović, Acting Director of Sarajevo International Airport.
We would especially like to emphasize our cooperation with the Sarajevo Canton Tourist Board and the Sarajevo Canton Government, as well as institutional support from all levels, including our Owner, the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and our line ministry, which co-finance our Incentive Program in order to stimulate passenger traffic and expand the destination network, in accordance with a separate Incentive Program provided by Sarajevo Airport.
The start of Transavia flights is also the result of our incentive program, which is partly co-financed by the Federation Government, i.e. the Federal Ministry of Transport and Communications.
