US President Donald Trump has said he intends to continue supplying weapons to Ukraine despite a recent partial halt to deliveries.
Asked by reporters if he planned to send more weapons to Ukraine, Trump said: “We’re going to send more weapons. We have to. They have to be able to defend themselves. They’re being hit very hard.”
It was announced last Tuesday that the United States had halted the delivery of some of the weapons it had promised to Ukraine, including anti-aircraft missiles. The US Department of Defense clarified that the halt was not specific to Ukraine, and that the US was reviewing its own capabilities and had also stopped providing aid to other countries.
Ukraine has been defending itself against a full-scale Russian invasion for more than three years. The Russian military has been trying to overcome the neighbouring country’s air defences for weeks, dpa reports.
