Trump unhappy with Plans to recognize a Palestinian State

US President Donald Trump has “expressed his dissatisfaction and disagreement with the leaders of France, Great Britain and Canada” who want to recognize a Palestinian state, White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said on Thursday evening.

The US president has somewhat hardened his position on the issue.

Although Trump has already strongly criticized Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney’s announcement of his intention to recognize a Palestinian state, he has not been as harsh about similar decisions by French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

Trump assessed that the statement of his French counterpart on recognizing a Palestinian state has little “weight” and that it “will not change anything.”

Regarding Great Britain, which intends to recognize a Palestinian state in September if Israel does not take on a series of obligations, the US president simply said that he is “not in that camp.”

According to a White House spokeswoman, Trump is now more critical and believes that such a plan represents “rewarding Hamas at a time when the Palestinian movement is the real obstacle to a ceasefire and the release of all hostages” in the Gaza Strip.
