The United States (U.S.) President Donald Trump yesterday extended his warmest greetings and congratulations to 1.9 billion Muslims around the world on the occasion of the beginning of the blessed month of Ramadan.

In his message, Trump stated that the Muslim month of fasting is “a time to draw hope, courage, and inspiration to live in holiness and virtue.”

“As millions of U.S. Muslims begin to observe Ramadan, my administration reaffirms its commitment to supporting religious freedom, which is greatly an integral part of the U.S. way of life. Above all, we renew our determination to build a future of peace and to recognize the dignity that is imprinted in every human soul,” Trump said, adding:

“This Ramadan, I wish you all the best for a period of joyful reflection on God’s infinite grace and endless love. May God bless you and your families during this wondrous time.”

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. According to Islamic teaching, this blessed month contains the Night of Power, when the revelation of the Qur’an began, and the Battle of Badr, a historical event that strongly shaped the history of Islam.

Fasting during the month of Ramadan is one of the pillars of Islam and a strict obligation for every adult, healthy Muslim man and woman.
