Two Victims found in Donja Jablanica, Search Dogs locate more Bodies

Yesterday in Donja Jablanica, shortly after 12 p.m., two more bodies were found, raising the death toll from the catastrophic floods and landslides in Jablanica to 15. The search for more than 10 missing persons is still ongoing.

The situation in Donja Jablanica remains dire. In addition to the Federal Civil Protection Administration, the Mountain Rescue Service (GSS), special units of the Federal Police, local residents, and rescuers from Croatia – members of the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) with licensed cadaver dogs – are on the scene.

One HGSS member stated that the dogs have located some bodies, but due to the debris and stones, access to them is currently impossible, and it is not known when this will be feasible.

The search continues, and more rescuers from Serbia, Montenegro, and Slovenia are expected. These teams are being engaged through the International Civil Protection Coordination Mechanism and the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

Rescuers have appealed for assistance in machinery rather than personnel and urged no one to embark on rescue efforts independently.

Questions have also been raised about a nearby quarry as a potential cause of the disaster, suggesting that accumulated debris, triggered by heavy rainfall, may have crashed onto homes in Donja Jablanica. However, aside from Nermin Niksic, the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH (FBiH), no official has commented on this. The prosecutor’s office has taken over the investigation.
