The Embassy of Ukraine in Bosnia and Herzegovina has sent a request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH requesting that two meetings be organized in Sarajevo for the Ukrainian ambassador covering Croatia and BiH, Vasyl Kirilic, Klix.ba has learned.

Ukrainians are asking for two meetings for the ambassador to be organized in January. The first with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Bisera Turkovic, and the second with the Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH Gordana Tadic.

The topic of the meetings will be the 300-year-old gilded Ukrainian icon from Lugansk, which was presented by the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH Milorad Dodik on December 14 at the Republika Srpska Government Headquarters in East Sarajevo to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

As Klix.ba has learned, the diplomatic note also mentions topics such as the development of bilateral relations between BiH and Ukraine and the exchange of opinions on cooperation between Ukraine and BiH in the area of competence of law enforcement institutions.

The Ukrainian embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina recently requested that the icon be returned to Ukraine.

“If the first step has already been taken – the icon has been returned to Sarajevo, then the second must be taken – to return to Ukraine,” Ukraine’s ambassador to Croatia and BiH told Ukrainian media.

As it is known, Ukraine claims that the stamp on the back of the icon unequivocally proves that it is an icon that is Ukrainian cultural heritage and that has disappeared from that country and belongs exclusively to Ukraine.
