The members of the United Nations Security Council, at the initiative of Slovenia, adopted a statement calling for political dialogue and reaffirming the importance of respecting the Dayton Peace Agreement and the constitutional laws of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

They called on the political representatives of the two entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the three constituent peoples and others to engage in a sincere, open and constructive dialogue with the aim of preserving the unity and political stability of the country.

In a joint statement, the members of the UN Security Council pointed to the need to resolve disputes by consensus and avoid confrontation in order to preserve peace and stability.

“The members of the Security Council expressed deep concern about the recent events in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The members of the Security Council reaffirmed their full support for the implementation of the General Framework Agreement for Peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and its annexes,” the statement said.

They also called on all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from provocative, divisive rhetoric and actions, and expressed their support for EUFOR’s Operation Althea, which is operating in accordance with its mandate.

The UN Security Council, they stressed, remains unequivocally committed to the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of BiH in full accordance with the Dayton Peace Agreement.
