Around 80 nature enthusiasts, representatives of 35 organizations from 17 countries, are currently staying in Martin Brod, a picturesque settlement in the heart of Una National Park. Gathered as part of activities carried out by the international organization Patagonia, the participants share a common mission – the preservation of natural resources and the promotion of sustainable practices in environmental protection.

During the multi-day program, participants will have the opportunity to get to know the natural wealth of this part of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), exchange knowledge, methods, and experiences from their countries, and connect with colleagues from around the world who share the same passion and commitment.

Special significance was given to the event by the arrival of the mayor of Bihac, Elvedin Sedic, who emphasized the importance of international cooperation for local development.

“Meetings like this are valuable because not only do we promote the natural beauty of our region, but we also learn how to preserve it and how to sustainably develop tourism. Sustainability means finding a balance between the preservation and use of nature. Una National Park is our pride, and initiatives like this are an additional wind at its back when it comes to protection,” said Sedic.

Mihela Hladin Wolfe, Patagonia advisor, explained that the gathering is part of a broader project of connecting and strengthening the capacities of organizations working in the field of ecology.

“The organization Patagonia regularly brings together organizations from around the world that deal with environmental protection. Through workshops, lectures, and time spent in nature, we work on exchanging experiences and strengthening the capacities of these organizations. This is already our third visit to the Una River, and we are happy to return to such a special place,” said Wolfe.

Among the participants of the gathering is also Ulrich Eichelmann, an internationally recognized ecologist and one of the loudest opponents of the construction of hydropower plants on European and world rivers, including the Danube, Tigris, and even the Una itself.

Organizers and hosts from the Una National Park Public Enterprise emphasize the great importance of Una National Park being recognized as a relevant place for such gatherings. They hope that all participants will take with them valuable insights and inspiration for further work on nature preservation in their communities.
