Ursula von der Leyen requested an investigation into the deaths of civilians in the Gaza Strip

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she was disturbed by the footage of mass casualties during the distribution of humanitarian aid among civilians in the Gaza Strip and called for an investigation to clarify the details of the event.

“Deeply disturbed by the images from Gaza. Every effort must be made to investigate what happened and ensure transparency. Humanitarian aid is a lifeline for those in need and access must be ensured. We stand with civilians, calling for their protection in accordance with international by law,” Von der Leyen said on the “X” network.

Earlier in the day, France and China condemned the event, Japan called on Israel to abide by international humanitarian law, and Colombia suspended all arms purchases from the country.

The Palestinian Authority announced yesterday that the Israeli army opened fire on a crowd of people in Gaza City who were waiting to receive humanitarian aid. 112 people were killed and 760 were wounded.

Israel has denied that the shooting death toll was that high and claims most of the victims died in the stampede as people rammed into trucks loaded with food, Srna news agency reports.
