cormackThe Ambassador of the US in BiH, Maureen Cormack, expressed her concern about the topic of corruption and political influence on members of the judicial system in BiH, which she discussed with the President of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) Milan Tegeltija.

Ambassador Cormack emphasized that the US Government and Embassy in BiH are assisting the judiciary in BiH for 20 years and longer because they believe that it has crucial importance for the success of our country.

The Embassy of US in BiH believes that a significant progress was achieved in the work of BH justice already at the beginning, however, when it came to challenges and problems, dynamics of this progress slowed down, said Ambassador Cormack.

Cormack expressed hope that they will be able to work together on achieving the objective of fighting the corruption and political influence and returning confidence of the public in the judiciary system.

While commenting on the slow prosecution of corruption cases in BiH, she noted that she understands that the judiciary is facing many challenges, but also noted that these cases need to be finalized, in order for the trust of citizens to be regained.

She also commented the recent visit of the Congress delegation of the US to BiH, which was organized within the visit to the Balkan countries, and it was hosted by the US Embassy. According to the Ambassador, the delegation left with very positive impressions after receiving information about the situation in BiH.

“They left convinced that the US should remain engaged in the Balkans and BiH,” she said.
