Sarajevo International Airport will be the first address of visit of Pope Francis to BiH on June 6.
The director of the Airport Ivan Veličan emphasized that preparations for welcoming the Pope have begun.
“Our most important task is to secure that the welcome ceremony is held with maximum security measures, then to secure all possible technical support, which is expected from us as hosts,“ Veličan said.
He said that it is extremely important to create a pleasant environment while welcoming the Pope, and enable all necessary conditions to the guests.
“Of course that is imperative but also a challenge for us. I am personally very honored that the Sarajevo International Airport has been chosen as the starting point of the Holy Father’s visit,“ emphasized Veličan.
He is especially happy about the fact that they are going to host Pope Francis at a moment when the Sarajevo International Airport records highest number of passengers since it was established.
On proposal of the State Committee for welcoming Pope Francis, within which a State Committee was formed, Subcommittee of the Airport was formed as well. That Subcommittee includes the most important aspects such as: security, reception and transport of VIP persons, technical support and promotion.
Sarajevo International Airport was also in charge of the welcome ceremony back in 1997, during the first papal visit to Sarajevo.
Veličan said there are many new things now compared to that visit. That firstly includes newer exterior, premises for welcome and farewell ceremony, better marketing support, and increased security measures, as the most important segments of the welcome ceremony.
