Violence against Children and Women can no longer be lightly punished

Deputies and delegates of Our Party (Nasa stranka) in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) Parliament on the occasion of Women’s Day, March 8th, held a press conference at which they said that violence against children and women can no longer be tolerated and lightly punished in the FBiH Criminal Code.

That is why the deputies of Our Party proposed amendments to the Criminal Code of FBiH, which will be discussed today at the session of the House of Representatives.

”We have proposed 45 amendments and changes. Among them, we envisioned the introduction of a new crime “sexual harassment” to make it easier to prove the crime,” said the President of the Commission for Human Rights in the House of Representatives of the Parliament of FBiH, Milomirka Melank.

The deputies of Our Party demand that the removal of perpetrators of violence from the household be legally introduced when there is a danger of violence recurring.

”We demand a ban on doing any work with children of those who commit violence against children. We demand obligatory psychosocial treatment of perpetrators of violence, as well as a ban on communication with the victim of violence. We also demand a ban on the conditional release of persons convicted of domestic violence,” Melank pointed out.

The President of the Caucus of Our Party in the House of Representatives, Sabina Cudic, asked the Government of the FBiH to urgently include the Proposal of the Law on Material Support to Families with Children on the agenda of the today’s session.

”We have been waiting for five years for the adoption and implementation of this law which equalizes the status of mothers and families with children in the Federation, and it is the only place in Europe that did not regulate this issue. We do not need hypocritical congratulations from the Prime Minister of the Federation for March 8th, we need essential equality before the law. On this day, March 8th, I invite my colleagues to make effort so the families with children could get support at tomorrow’s session,” Cudic concluded yesterday.
