The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, met with the UnderSecretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs of the United States (U.S.), Elizabeth Allen (Liz Allen), and on that occasion “asked the U.S. to step up engagement” in the Western Balkans region.

“I pointed out the pressures facing Serbia and the Serbs and asked the U.S. to step up engagement and use its influence in order to preserve the stability of the region and create preconditions for sincere cooperation and concrete progress,” Vucic wrote on Instagram on May 15th.

As he said, during the meeting other geopolitical issues and the strengthening of bilateral relations between Serbia and the U.S.were discussed.

“We also talked about U.S. support for Serbia’s progress on the path to full membership in the European Union (EU),” said Vucic.

The U.S. Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Elizabeth Allen is in Serbia as part of her visit to the region.

As previously stated in the announcement of the State Department, the goal of her arrival is to deepen the partnership with the countries of the Western Balkans, as well as to improve regional cooperation and European integration.

Until May 20th, Under Secretary Allen will visit Kosovo and North Macedonia, and she has already been to Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Slobodna Evropa reports.
