Wagner Srebrenica fokus.baLiving in Srebrenica is more beautiful for me than in America, where people work and lot and earn money, but do not know how to enjoy life, said the American Suzie Wagner, who came to Srebrenica three years ago to work on her PhD thesis on the topic “What does the present life in Srebrenica look like and how people think about future”.

Then she met her husband, Goran Petrošić, whom she married. They got a son, Ognjen, and they live in Srebrenica now.

“People here work and know how to enjoy, that’s the life I like. People here understand me better than people in America. I recommend people not to make any judgments about Srebrenica until they come and see what life looks like here. We will stay in Srebrenica to live,” said this American who grew up in Pittsburgh, Ohio.

As Wagner stated, she did not want to do research on war but on present times, how people live today and how they think about future.

“I did ethnography, I met people, because I knew nobody when I first came to this town. Then I met my now husband, we got marries and got a baby,” Suzie said.

Suzie is currently doing her PhD theses, she is employed at the Faculty of Philosophy in Pale, and in her free time she engages in voluntary work.

“I find it beautiful here. Every town has a problem, and the biggest problem in Srebrenica is economy. It is a beautiful city with rich nature, nice people who know how to socialize and enjoy, and I like that a lot. Life in Srebrenica is much more beautiful to me than life in America. We could have lived there, but I did not want that,” Wagner stated.
