War Crime in Vitez: Eight Children killed on Playground, ARBiH Commanders indicted

The Prosecutor’s Office of BiH has filed an indictment against Keleštur Mensud, aka “Keli”, born in 1959 in Zenica, and Jašarević Hazim, aka “Šimek”, born in 1953 in Vitez.

They are charged with having acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Conventions on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War during the war and armed conflict between the ARBiH and the HVO, in their capacity as commanders of the Army of the Republic of BiH.

They are accused of having acted contrary to the provisions of the Geneva Conventions on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War.

Keleštura Mensud, as commander of the 325th Mountain Brigade of the ARBiH, and the accused Jašarević Hazim, as commander of the Brigade Artillery Group of the same brigade, on 10 June 1993. participated in an artillery attack on civilian objects inhabited by the Croat population, as a result of which, after the firing of a 120mm mortar, a grenade exploded on a children’s playground, killing eight Croat children, five of whom were killed immediately, and three more died soon after from their wounds, and five children who were on the playground were wounded.

They are charged with committing the criminal offense of War Crimes against Civilians under Article 173 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Public Relations Department of the Prosecutor’s Office of BiH announced.
