What is the situation with Ljubljanska banka depositors?

13113208_1168000423250912_1096735027_oThe old foreign currency depositors in the Ljubljanska banka so far submitted more than 20.000 requests for return of unpaid deposits, around 2.000 solutions were issued, and until today 387 depositors got their money, about 5.9 million EUR in total.

The so-called informative calculations of savings and accrued interest rates have been already made for about 2.000 depositors. Thirty million EUR belongs to them and they can expect their funds soon if they do not complain on the informative calculation, which would extend the entire procedure.

Half of the requests submitted so far refers to depositors in the Ljubljanska banka Sarajevo, and the others were depositors in Ljubljanska banka Zagreb. While the requests of Croatian depositors are being processed relatively quickly and without difficulties because the paperwork does not represent a problem, the situation is different with depositors from BiH. According to assessment from Ljubljana, documentation in BiH is not properly done.

Given that the funds are being paid on the basis of the Slovenian law, passed after the decision by the European Human Rights Court which ordered that the funds must be paid back to the depositors of Lubljanska banka and that Slovenia is obliged to implement that process, the process is being controlled by the Council of Europe. Last month, the Board of Ministers of the Council of Europe sent a recommendation to Ljubljana and Sarajevo to solve the issue of paperwork for depositors in BiH as soon as possible, so that repayments could begin.

For now, Slovenia thinks that verification of requests and payment on the basis of requests from BiH cannot begin until all paperwork is provided by the BiH authorities. According to the Succession Fund, which technically solves the issue of the old foreign currency savings in Ljubljanska banka for Croatia and BiH, the Secretariat of the Council of Europe also joined the negotiations.

The funds are allocated in budgets for the next two years. According to the Ljubljanska banka, the unpaid principal on the basis of old foreign currency savings in Croatia and BiH amounts to 258 million EUR.
