Why are the President of Court of BiH and the Former Director of Intelligence Agency arrested?

The Chief Prosecutor of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milanko Kajganić, said today at a press conference in Sarajevo that yesterday’s arrests of the President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ranko Debevac, and the former director of the Intelligence and Security Agency (OSA), Osman Mehmedagić, are proof that the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina is doing its job.

Kajganić said that evidence was gathered that Debevec and Osmanagić committed criminal acts of abuse of official position from the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the way that they illegally eavesdropped on judges of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the conduct of certain investigative actions in Prosecutor’s Office cases and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

According to him, so far there is no evidence that political figures and parties, as well as other natural persons, were wiretapped.

“So, for now, we have no evidence that the aforementioned illegalities were committed against certain political figures or political parties or any other natural persons in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Of course, we will check all this information. Based on our proposals, certain rooms in the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina have already been sealed which will be searched by order of the judge for the preliminary proceedings, and after the analysis of all that evidence, it will be known in which direction the investigation will proceed,” said Kajganić.

Kajganić said that Debevec and Osmanagić will be handed over to the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the day, which, he said, will most likely request custody.

He confirmed that the lawyer Vasvija Vidović was also arrested for, as he stated, preventing evidence.

Answering the journalists’ questions, he explained that yesterday Vidović tried to take the phone hidden by the suspect from SIPA’s premises.

Let us remind you that Debevec and Mehmedagić were arrested on the order of the Prosecutor’s Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and they are suspected of criminal acts of abuse of position, related to other criminal acts from the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Debevec has been in the position of President of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina since December 14, 2016.
