In the previous few years, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) could travel by train from Sarajevo to Capljina and Ploce in Croatia.

CNN declared the train journey on this route to be one of the most beautiful in Europe, and it was checked when, and if, the seasonal train that would connect Sarajevo with the Adriatic coast will start running.

The Railways of the Federation of BiH (FBiH) told that from June 2nd to August 27th, they are re-introducing the Sarajevo-Ploce-Sarajevo line.

“Given that last year in the period from July 1st to September 11th on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays there was a great interest of passengers in the Sarajevo-Ploce-Sarajevo passenger line, the Railways of the FBiH and Croatian Railways (HZ)Putnicki prijevoz planned the resumption of high-speed trains on the route Sarajevo-Ploce-Sarajevo in the period from June 2ndto August 27th, 2023, on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in the 2022/2023 timetable,” said the Service for public relations of the Railways of the FBiH.

On other days, according to the schedule, the train will operate on the Sarajevo-Capljina-Sarajevo route.

They pointed out that Railways of the FBiH does not plan to introduce an expanded offer like the one travelers had in 2019.

“For the reasons stated above, the FBiH Railways did not plan to introduce an expanded offer for passengers as it had in the period from June 15th to August 31st, 2019, when passengers of the Sarajevo-Capljina train could connect to the bus line to Neum, Makarska and Split at the Capljina station,“ it was stated.

To recall, the railway from Sarajevo to Ploce was started by Austria-Hungary, continued by the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, and completed by the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia(SFRY). The railway was built in several stages and was one of the largest traffic and infrastructure projects of the last century, Radio Sarajevo reports.
