Wizz Air will suspend flights between London and Sarajevo in September due to increased competition from Ryanair, with the final flight between the two capitals scheduled for September 23rd.
During the winter, Wizz Air operated four weekly flights on the Sarajevo – London route, compared to two weekly rotations that were maintained during the winters of 2022/23 and 2023/24. Wizz Air’s London route benefited from subsidies granted by the Canton Sarajevo (CS) Tourist Board, which led to an increase in the numberof flights in the past two years.
In 2024, Wizz Air transported 41.354 passengers on its Luton – Sarajevo route. The average annual cabin load factor was 70.3 percent.
However, since last April, the airline has faced increased competition, as Ryanair launched flights on the London – Sarajevo route.
Ryanair managed to transport 37.384 passengers on that route in 2024 during nine months of operation, with an average cabin load factor of 90.3 percent.
During the 2025/26 winter season, which begins on October 26th, Wizz Air will continue with three weekly flights on the Sarajevo – Rome route. Also, services to Abu Dhabi will remain during the summer season.
It should be mentioned that since August 2021, Wizz Air introduced a second A320 aircraft to its base in Sarajevo, expanding its network with additional routes. However, as of November 2022, the airline closed its center, canceling seventeen of its nineteen routes, keeping only the services to London and Abu Dhabi, Klix.ba writes.
