Workers from BiH Most Sought After for Seasonal Jobs in Croatia

job-searchFor a good tourist season, it is necessary to have quality seasonal workers, said leaders from the Croatian National Tourist Board. They said that the tourist season began earlier this year due to the good weather conditions, and is the reason why the seasonal workforce is sought in BiH.

Work force from BiH, in particular those with Croatian documents, are the most sought after employees for this season in Croatia. The reason for this is because employers and agencies have the least administrative barriers by hiring people from BiH with Croatian citizenship.

According to the Ministry of Labor, in the first three months more than 8.000 people have been employed, and the most sought after are maids, waiters, cooks, cleaners and receptionists. The Ministry announced that there will be some new measures in employment of seasonal workers.

“For the first time companies in tourism can use all measures of active employment policy. Bureaucratic barriers will be town down and measures will be directly applied’’, said the Ministry of Labor and Pension System Mirando Mrsić.

In BiH there are several specialized agencies and internet portals that help unemployed people who are unable to find a job in BIH, to find one in neighboring countries or in the EU.

“In BiH we have specialized portals that offer the largest selection of jobs abroad’’, said Marko Martić, the Executive Director of the Center for Research and Studies GEA from Banja Luka.

“A good portion of these jobs are seasonal, and they usually last from three to six months. Employees for medical care and care of children and older people are always sought’’, said Martić.

“Recently, the Association of the Unemployed in BiH sent a request to the BiH Minister of Security Fahrudin Radončiću, Minister of Civil Affairs Sredoje Nović and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Zlatko Lagumdžija to establish agreements with neighboring countries as well as EU member states on the mutual exchange of seasonal workers. Given the difficult economic situation and number of unemployed, which is more than 546.000 in BiH, the Association of Unemployed in BIH was forced to look for all possible solutions to leave the crisis.

They believe that this agreement would help citizens receive seasonal visas throughout the year.
