160926113-8_xxlThree 19-year-olds from Mostar dedicated their knowledge, skills and free time to the solving of the issue that bothers more and more owners of smartphones – to the development of a smart tag that would serve as an external battery and memory for smartphones.

Marin Bevanda, Luka Vučina and Robert Rozić are students of IT engineering at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Computing in Mostar and young men who are interested in new technologies.

Marin designed the tag, Luka is the hardware engineer, while Robert is the programmer. Together with the project manager Tamara Knezović, they are gathered in Amplius Electronics – a startup company within the business park SPARK in Mostar.

The idea appeared last year while they were still in school. As the majority of their friends, they started encountering more often and often the issue of the lack of battery on smartphones and the lack of memory for storing photographs and other documents.

At first, they did not possess enough knowledge to turn their idea into reality, but they did not give up and after a lot of research and additional studying they came up with the solution for implementation.

The smart tag is actually an external battery – power bank, which can charge the battery of a smartphone up to 70 percent, depending of the device, and it also has additional memory for the storing of data from the mobile device in case of the lack of free space on the smartphone.

Some of the extra options of Rubic, as they named the tag, are the NFC tag that can be used for unlocking doors and a flashlight.

Dimensions of Rubic are miniature, 6×4 centimeters, which is the size of a regular Zippo lighter.

This project applied information technology, but it also has the hardware component, and that is why this team expects success in both domestic and foreign market, given that they intend to make a breakthrough on the U.S. market.

Their greatest support is the business park SPARK from Mostar, which enabled them the necessary infrastructure for the development of the smart tag idea.
