Mogherini ZvizdicChairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH, Denis Zvizdic, met yesterday in Brussels with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini, on the progress that BiH made towards the process of European integrations.

Chairman Zvizdic said that BiH is strongly committed to EU integration and emphasized that the EU membership is the main foreign policy priority and strategic objective. He said that BiH has fulfilled the last condition by adopting the finalized text of the coordination mechanism. He informed the High Representative on the degree of implementation of the Reform Agenda, whose implementation is getting BiH closer to the EU.

He stated that the second condition regarding the SAA has been realized and that the Presidency of BiH is waiting for ratification by countries of the European Union. He expressed confidence that BiH will finish commitments in order to receive the status of candidate by 2017. He said that a step forward was made on the NATO path as well and that it is one of the key messages that contribute to the security of BiH and the region.

The High Representative Mogherini praised the progress of BiH in fulfilling the requirements for the inclusion of the request for membership in the European Union on the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the General Affairs Council of the European Union.

The High Representative Mogherini congratulated on the achievements and said that BiH has the support to continue its European path. She said that there has been visible progress in the implementation of tasks that BiH has received from the European Union and that even stronger cooperation between the countries of the Western Balkans is necessary in the upcoming period as well as to strengthen security and combat terrorism and all forms of extremism. She emphasized that it is necessary to continue the continuity of positive activities.

Speaking about the announced referendum in the entity of the RS, chairman Zvizdic and High Representative Mogherini agreed that the referendum is unnecessary and harmful, and that special attention in the future should be given to economic development.

Chairman Zvizdic thanked for their support and assistance to BiH in the process of the European integrations and expressed the belief that great progress of BiH will be recognized on the 20th of September, when the Council will adopt the Conclusion on forwarding the request of BiH to the European Commission to invite for the preparation of opinions on the request of BiH for membership in the EU.
