Zvizdic: Schmidt needs to improve the Integrity of the Election Process

Vice-Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdic today called on the high representative of the international community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, to improve the integrity of the electoral process so that the upcoming elections are fair and honest, and so that voters, not “counters”, determine the future BiH.

On his Facebook profile, Zvizdic says that unofficial information has been coming for months that there are individuals in the institutions of the international community who see the solution to problems in Bosnia and Herzegovina in meeting the wishes of the pro-Bosnian forces, which are dominated by Bosniaks, as well as HDZ and SNSD.

He believes that the intention of such, as he calls it, anti-democratic, anti-European and extremely dangerous scenario for the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina is that with the law on the prohibition of denial of genocide, a concession was made to the pro-Bosnian forces, i.e. the Bosniaks, and that a concession should now be made to the “Croatian side”, through the imposition of the Electoral Law at the wish of the HDZ, and to the “Serbian side” through the SNSD’s request regarding state property, despite the numerous and clear judgments of the European Court and the Constitutional Court of BiH.

Zvizdic says that the decision of the former high representative Valentin Inzko on the ban on denying the genocide is not “the exclusive interest of the Bosniak side”, but the interest of protecting the Constitution, law, international law, justice, civilizational values and the fight against the most horrible language of hatred, which is the interest not only of patriotic and European-oriented citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also of the entire civilized world.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina, in accordance with the decisions of the Constitutional Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the publicly proclaimed decisions and positions of the OHR, is the sole holder of all state property and will remain so. What domestic institutions and the high representative should do is to respect the decisions and prevent any attempt to transfer state property to lower levels of government,” adds Zvizdic.

He points out that the Electoral Law should be changed, but only after the October elections and above all in accordance with the judgments of the European Court of Human Rights, which clearly state the direction in which the electoral reform in BiH should go.

“No changes to the Electoral Law of BiH that undermine the democratic and European future of BiH will pass nor must they be imposed, just as it is clear that HDZ’s proposal to amend the Electoral Law adopted by the House of Peoples of BiH cannot pass in the House of Representatives of BiH,” he says.

This should be, Zvizdic concludes, a sufficient indicator for the high representative not to enter into the adventure of imposing solutions that are not in accordance with democratic and European standards.
