1 200 Copies of Scientific Editions Handed to University Libraries

damir_masicFederation Minister of Education and Science Damir Mašić handed over yesterday at a ceremony in Sarajevo sets of encyclopedic, scientific and university literature for six university libraries in area of the Federation of BiH.

Libraries received 123 titles, which is around 1.200 copies of current scientific and reference editions, and it was emphasized today that this is a continuation of an ongoing project of the Federation Ministry of Education and Science to additionally improve library fund of all higher education institutions in the Federation of BiH.

Mašić reminded that the Ministry has invested more than 2.3 million KM in the publishing library services since 2007, and more than 1.700 titles of scientific and university literature has been donated to libraries.

Director of the National and University Library of BiH (NUL) Ismet Ovčina said that the Federation Ministry of Education and Science secured 600.000 KM last year, which, even though is not enough for functioning of NUL, saved the Library from a complete collapse.

He added that NUL is celebrating 70th anniversary this year, and employees of NUL received salary for July 2014 today and he hopes they will have better working conditions this year.

Edita Mulaosmanović from the Library of the “Džemal Bijedić” University in Mostar said that assistance of the Ministry means a lot, because situation in this institution is similar to the other ones, and she reminded that fund of this library was completely destroyed in 1993 and after the war they had to start over.

The handover ceremony was held within regular annual meeting with directors, that is, representatives of all six university libraries in the Federation of BiH.

Furthermore, Minister Mašić and Director Ovčina signed Agreement today on continuing the system “Registry of scientific institutions, scientific staff, scientific projects and infrastructural investments in FBiH”.
