1.84 Million working-age Population in the Federation of BiH

In the fourth quarter of 2025, there were 1,847,000 working-age population in the FBiH, of which 963,000 were economically active or 52.1 percent, and 884,000 were outside the labor force or 47.9 percent.

Of the total working-age population, 843,000 were employed or 45.6 percent, and 120,000 were unemployed or 6.5 percent.

The number of employed compared to the third quarter of 2025 increased by 2.2 percent, and the number of unemployed decreased by 0.7 percent. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, the number of employed increased by 4.0 percent, and the number of unemployed decreased by 1.9 percent.

The total number of active population increased compared to the third quarter of 2025 by 1.8 percent. Compared to the fourth quarter of 2024, the number of active population increased by 3.3 percent, according to the results of the Labor Force Survey for the fourth quarter of 2025 published by the Federal Statistical Office.

The employment rate in the fourth quarter of 2025 increased by 0.9 percentage points compared to the third quarter of 2025, while compared to the fourth quarter of 2024 it increased by 1.7 percentage points.

The unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2025 decreased by 0.3 percentage points compared to the third quarter of 2025, while compared to the fourth quarter of 2024 it decreased by 0.6 percentage points.

In the structure of the active population, 574,000 are men or 59.6 percent, and 389,000 are women or 40.4 percent. In the structure of employed persons, 518,000 or 61.5 percent are men, while 325,000 or 38.5 percent are women. Of the total number of unemployed persons, 56,000 or 46.7 percent are men, and 64,000 or 53.3 percent are women

In the fourth quarter of 2025, the activity rate was 52.1 percent, the employment rate was 45.6 percent, and the unemployment rate was 12.5 percent.

Observed by gender, there are more active men than active women. The activity rate of men was 63.7 percent, while the activity rate of women was 41.1 percent. The same applies to the employment rate, which was 57.5 percent for men and 34.4 percent for women. The unemployment rate for men was 9.8 percent, and for women 16.4 percent.
