Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina meets with Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi

Security Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Selmo Cikotic spoke by phone with Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhelyi on Monday informing him about the current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the migrant crisis as a security challenge it is facing, and the measures that our country is taking in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Minister Cikotic expressed gratitude for the support provided by the European Union to BiH in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic and noted the importance of the EU’s continued engagement in advancing political, economic, and security ties between the EU and BiH.

For his part, Commissioner Varhelyi expressed readiness to more actively involve Bosnia and Herzegovina in the wider EU Migration Policy, in terms of better border procedures, asylum policy, and readmission.

Commissioner Varhelyi promised additional financial and technical assistance from the EU in order to strengthen the quality of control of the state border of BiH, control of the movement of migrants throughout the country, in order to raise the security of the citizens of BiH.
