During the session of Prime Ministers at the Third Western Balkan Investment Summit in London, which was organized by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdic noted the importance of the EBRD as one of the largest institutional investors in BiH.
While talking about the priorities for regional projects, Chairman Zvizdic supported the organization of meetings that are aimed to increase cooperation and promotion of the region of the Western Balkans, and he also noted the importance of infrastructure projects, adding that it is necessary to realize them as soon as possible. He also noted that BiH has large potential when it comes to rich natural resources and that the economic development of both BiH and the region can be further stimulated with high-quality projects. He stated that regional countries need to define joint interests and transfer them into regional projects in the future period.
During the conference, an additional agreement in the amount of 750 million EUR for four sections of the highway on Corridor 5C in the length of about 70 kilometers was signed with the EBRD, of which 500 million for the territory of the FBiH, and 250 million for the territory of the RS, with which will be completed an important share that will connect the entire territory of BiH and thus enable new investments and a stronger flow of goods and people, as well as the economic development of BiH.
The Memorandum was signed by Minister Denis Lasic on behalf of the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the FBiH, and the main aim of the Memorandum is to identify the priority of capital infrastructure projects and to create preconditions for their realization in cooperation with the EBRD.
These signatures confirmed the common goal once again, and that is the improvement of the quality and availability of transport infrastructure in BiH, and ultimately persistent work on the economic development of our country.
Minister Lasic noted that the projects that are defined in this way will be implemented as soon as possible, and that they should have several loan agreements ready for signature very soon. This year, those should be three contracts with the total value of 190 million EUR, and in the next year, two contracts in the total amount of 275 million EUR.
The Minister also thanked the EBRD, as a great and honest friend of BiH, for years of great cooperation and all the efforts invested in the development of our country, as well as support through this kind of memorandum of understanding, as announced by the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the FBiH.
