A Ban on the Movement of Scooters and Motorcycles in central Sarajevo Streets was proposed

Independent city councilor Jasmin Skorupan proposed to consider banning the use of bicycles, scooters, and motorcycles in the central parts of Sarajevo.

He believes that the traffic of the mentioned vehicles should be prohibited in Marshal Tito Street and Ferhadija Street and, as he stated, in the narrower part of Bascarsija. He explained why he considers this initiative to the Ministry of Transportation of Canton Sarajevo (CS) to be justified.

“More and more often, we are witnessing the abuse of these vehicles that move at high speed, which can endanger the safety of pedestrians. Ferhadija and Bascarsija are primarily intended for pedestrians who should enjoy walking, without fear of collisions or accidents. The goal is to protect pedestrians from accidents,” he pointed out.

He noted that there is such a ban in some capital cities of European countries, and he highlighted Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Paris as examples.

“In these cities, the measures resulted in a reduction in the number of accidents and an increase in pedestrian safety,” he adds.

He also mentioned that there are bicycle paths in other parts of Sarajevo that can be used without hindrance. He emphasized that delivery cyclists should be exempt from the ban, Klix.ba reports.
