At the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo, two patients have a developed clinical picture of monkeypox, and this needs to be confirmed diagnostically, the KCUS Press Service informed Fena news agency today.

The first case of monkeypox in BiH was recorded on July 13.

Monkeypox is a virus that first appeared in remote parts of central and western Africa.

The disease is generally mild, and the virus does not spread easily between people, while those affected recover within a few weeks.

The disease begins with fever, headache, fatigue, chills and muscle pain. Monkey pox also causes swollen lymph nodes.

During May of this year, outside the endemic countries where the virus sometimes appears, 605 cases of monkeypox were detected, of which 355 cases were in the countries of the European Union, including our neighboring countries.

Outside the EU, the majority of patients are in Great Britain.

The Institute pointed out that monkeypox is usually self-limiting, and that it was previously recorded that vaccination against smallpox protects against monkeypox.

The FBiH Public Health Institute, in cooperation with the cantonal institutes, will closely monitor the situation, and they have made regular contact with the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (EDCD) and the WHO office.
