Agreement between Islamic Community and BiH cannot be the Subject of Political Trade

The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina (IC BiH) supports every effort to correct the injustice and discrimination against Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is reflected, among other things, in the fact that the signing of the agreement between this religious community and the state has been unjustifiably blocked for years, IC BiH announced.

“The agreement of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina should not and cannot be the subject of any political trade or blackmail. The agreement guarantees the basic religious rights of Muslims and puts the Islamic Community in the same position as other religious communities and churches that already have such contracts signed, and this is a right that cannot be traded,” it is said in the statement of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, MINA reports.

It is also reminded that it is not true that the draft agreement gives the Islamic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina more rights than other religious communities and churches in their agreements.

“The only difference between these agreements is certain specific religious practices related to Islamic teaching and tradition, which are accommodated in Bosnian society with respect for all the principles of secular society and individual freedoms,” the statement reads.

The Islamic Community hopes for the signing of the agreement as soon as possible, especially since its text was agreed upon by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina with the consent and consultation of the authorities of both entities.
