Air Quality Worsens in Zenica

Sarajevo Zagađenje zrakaThe concentration of sulfur dioxide SO2 and particulate matter in the air in Zenica has increased in comparison to 2012, after an analysis of all the measurements in 2013 were done by the Metallurgical Institute “Kemal Kapetanović”at three measuring institutes.

In 2013, the daily concentration of sulfur dioxide SO2 was greater than 125 mg/per cubic meter, more than three days, at the measuring place ‘Institut’ for 146 days, and 186 days in 2012.

Then in the area of ‘Tetovo’, it was 173 days, 196 days in 2012, and 143 days at the measuring station ‘Crkvice’, and 146 days in 2012.

In 2013, higher maximum daily concentrations of sulfur dioxide SO2 were recorded at all three measuring stations ‘Institut’, ‘Crkvice’ and ‘Tetovo’, in comparison to 2012.

At ‘Institut’, the maximum daily concentration of SO2 reached a concentration of 633 mg/per cubic meter of air on 20 December 2013, 544 mg/per cubic meter of air at ‘Crkvice’ on 17 December 2013, and 575 mg/per cubic meter of air at ‘Tetovo’.

The annual average concentration of sulfur dioxide SO2 in 2012 were higher at the measuring station ‘Crkvice’ by 10,44 percent, and reduced at ‘Institut’ by 12,21 percent, and by 6,1 percent in ‘Tetovo’, in comparison to 2012.

The daily average concentration of total suspended particulate matter is not allowed to exceed 250 mg/per cubic meter during a calendar year. However, the annual concentration of total suspended particulate matter in 2013 reduced, in comparison to 2012 at the measuring station ‘Institut’ by 1,36 percent, and by 12,6 percent at ‘Tetovo’.
