The election of delegates from the Federation of BiH to the House of Peoples of the state parliament showed how the relations within the broad and colorful coalition that formed the government at the state level will function.
Due to agreements, conditions and probably various other behind-the-scenes actions, the strongest party within the Eight was left without a single delegate seat in the most important institution of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Undoubtedly, this was the hardest thing for SDP leader Nermin Nikšić.
Due to the secret voting, it is difficult to claim how the delegates of the Eight voted in the House of Peoples of FBiH, but due to this outcome, it is clear that the Eight was not united and the question is what is its future.
Therefore, it is not surprising to learn that at the beginning of next week, a meeting of the leaders of the Group of Eight should be held precisely on Nikšić’s initiative.
The topic is expected – the further functioning of that coalition at the FBiH level, and the reason for the meeting is the non-harmonized vote during the election of delegates to the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly.
Information soon appeared that Nikšić had sent a warning letter to the leaders of the eight parties that make up the coalition government.
In the letter, the content of which was seen by Slobodna Bosna, Nikšić informs the coalition partners that because of everything that happened today, he “freezes the status of the SDP in the Eight”.
“The Seven can remain, or whatever. We will schedule a session of the Main Board of the SDP and propose whether to make a decision and whether to open discussions about other possible partners for the formation of the government. Or we will remain the opposition, and you as the Seven to leave the SDA,” he allegedly wrote in the letter sent to the coalition partners.
In support of these claims is the statement of the vice-president of SDP BiH, Vojin Mijatović, who said tonight, during a guest appearance on Face TV, that the party is very disappointed with the behavior of certain partners from the Eight, specifically NES, SBiH and Damir Marjanović. He said that “an answer will follow” on Monday.
“We will have a discussion already on Monday. What follows is a very sharp, strong and brutal response to those who acted outside the agreement. This can happen when you unconditionally trust the people with whom you form a coalition – NES, SBiH and this Damir Marjanović. The “Three” is very compact, but the newcomer’s story is a bit of playing on both sides,” Mijatović said.
Mijatović added that he was with Nikšić today and that the partners, who “betrayed the SDP”, will soon get to know Nikšić and the SDP in the right way.
“There is one thing that annoys me to no end about Nermin, that he trusts people to the end. They don’t know Nermin when they let him down, they will meet Nermin and the SDP on Monday. It is so dramatic that now they will see what it is like when the SDP governs in full capacity process and put partners where they belong. Let them get ready for a political game that will be very rough,” said Mijatović.
How things will continue in the coming period and whether the rest of the Group of Eight will take the SDP leader’s warning seriously remains to be seen in the coming days, but it is unrealistic to expect that the SDP will be satisfied with the current state of the balance of power.
We remind you once again that, as regards the delegates from the Federation of BiH for the House of Peoples of BiH, Marina Pendeš, Dragan Čović and Zdenko Ćosić were elected from the Club of Croats before HDZ, Ilija Cvitanović (HDZ 1990) and Zlatko Miletić.
Šefik Džaferović, Safet Softić from SDA, Dženan Đonlagić from DF, Kemal Ademović from NiP and Džemal Smajić (SBiH) were elected to the state House of Peoples from the Bosniak Club, Klix.ba reports.
