Another person injured in the crash of an EUFOR helicopter in the village of Gorice, near Brčko, has died, it was confirmed to Klix.ba. This brings the death toll from the accident to four.

The helicopter crashed today around 4:00 PM. EUFOR stated that the incident occurred during a routine operation in the Brčko area. Three people died at the scene, and 12 were injured. All of the deceased and injured are Italian nationals.

Jasmin Mehanović, Director of the “Brčko Health Center,” previously confirmed to Klix.ba that one of the injured individuals was in life-threatening condition and would likely be transferred to the University Clinical Center (UKC) in Tuzla. Brčko Mayor Siniša Milić told RTRS that several of the injured were in critical condition. He noted that they were all initially treated at the local hospital before being transported to medical facilities in the surrounding area.

Cause of the crash still unknown

EUFOR announced that a detailed investigation is underway to determine all the circumstances and causes of the accident. Further information will be released once the facts have been established. According to eyewitnesses, the helicopter was flying at a low altitude before the crash and spun around several times in the air.

“EUFOR can confirm that an accident involving the crash of one of its aircraft occurred today during a routine operation in the Brčko area,” the mission stated. They added that no civilian infrastructure, property, or vehicles were damaged, and that no civilians were injured. Milić stated that the helicopter crashed in an uninhabited area, not far from the first houses in the Gorice settlement. Firefighters will remain on duty at the crash site throughout the night due to spilled jet fuel, in order to prevent any potential fire or explosion.

Chinook in BiH since January

According to media reports, the downed aircraft is a CH-47 Chinook transport helicopter. Data from the Italian Ministry of Defence indicates that an Italian Army Aviation detachment from the 4th “Altair” Regiment has been part of EUFOR since January 2026. The detachment operates multi-role AB-205 helicopters and medium-lift CH-47F transport helicopters for transport, personnel extraction, and medical evacuation.
