An emergency Arab summit in Cairo today adopted an Egyptian plan for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

A joint statement following the summit stated that the plan proposed by Egypt in full coordination with Palestine and the Arab countries, based on studies conducted by the World Bank and the United Nations Development Fund for the early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza, was adopted as a comprehensive Arab plan.

The summit reaffirmed its rejection of the displacement of Palestinians from their land under any pretext or circumstance.

The Arab summit further emphasized that it had appointed a legal committee to study the classification of the displacement of Palestinians as part of the crime of genocide.

Condemns Israel’s recent decision to stop humanitarian aid from entering Gaza and to close the crossings used for the delivery of aid, affirming that these measures constitute a violation of the ceasefire agreement, international law and international humanitarian law.

It also emphasizes its rejection of Israel’s use of siege and starvation of civilians as a means to achieve political goals.

Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit said the Cairo summit’s joint statement proposed deploying international peacekeeping forces in Gaza and the West Bank.

“The Cairo Arab summit’s joint statement warned that any attempt to displace Palestinians and annex their land would destabilize the region,” he said.

The summit also stressed the urgent priority of implementing the second and third phases of the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

The Arab League chief further said that a special committee is tasked with continuing engagement with world capitals to present an Arab plan for the reconstruction of Gaza and is awaiting an international response.

The Arab summit’s joint statement also condemned Israeli attacks and incursions into Syria and called on international actors to take urgent measures to force Israel to withdraw, AA writes.
