The authorities in Tuzla Canton approved the allocation of money from the budget to subsidize airlines from Tuzla International Airport. After Wizz Air closed its base, negotiations with other airlines began. However, everything is still pending. Meanwhile, with the reduction in the number of lines, there are fewer and fewer tourists.
It is still uncertain if and when the routes operated by Wizz Air will be restored. In order to achieve this, 2.5 million marks were approved from the Tuzla Canton Budget.
“The international airport expressed the need for subsidizing flights from our airport, and the government responded by providing funds to implement measures and overcome emerging problems.”
“We expect that next week all the prescribed procedures will go through and that we will be able to announce at the end of next week and we sincerely hope that qualified companies will contact us and that we can continue traffic from Tuzla International Airport, at least this part that Wizz Air has stopped flying at the moment,” said Dzevad Halilcevic, director of Tuzla International Airport.
We remind you that after the Irish company Ryanair canceled flights at the beginning of the summer, a new shock followed. Wizz Air closed its base and canceled nine routes to the most attractive European destinations.
“We currently have Germany and Switzerland covered this winter from November 1st. Basel is covered in Switzerland, and Dortmund and Memmingen are currently flying in Germany, Halilcevic added.
Negotiations with Air Montenegro are ongoing and alternative solutions are being sought, and Ryanair is also an option, which could fly from the summer.
“Our intention is precisely to make us afraid in advance. We are afraid of the future results, considering that the tourism community of Tuzla Canton, using the capacities and resources of the Tuzla International Airport, based its programs and some of its strategic goals precisely on the airport.”
However, it is currently necessary to resolve the winter flight schedule. This year, a record number of tourists was broken in Tuzla, however, after the cancellation of Wiz Air lines, it was drastically reduced. If the current situation persists, the consequences for tourism could be great, said Miralem Meskovic, director of the Tuzla Airport Tourist Board.
While the authorities hope that the public call will attract qualified airlines, the biggest problem is that everything is moving slowly, and the consequences are already noticeable.
